UNEP/GRID-Arendal
has for many years acknowledged that one of the cornerstones in
communicating environmental and sustainable development issues is
through visual means – through maps or other forms of illustrations.
One picture says more than thousand words, right? The popularity of
these graphics can be seen in the number of requests received for these
products, as well as the visitor statistics to web-sites held at UNEP/GRID-Arendal.
The new UNEP/GRID-Arendal Maps & Graphics Library
has been set up as a repository to present outputs from publications,
projects and web-products that has been produced by UNEP/GRID-Arendal
through out the years. These include, among many others, the popular Vital Graphics series of publications, the GLOBIO human impact maps and illustrations from the Environment Times newspaper.
This web-site presents a collection of interactive maps, as well as
a comprehensive catalogue of illustrations - referenced by publication,
theme or geographic region. There are currently hundreds of graphics
available in the database, and the service is continuously updated and
revised.
