October 6 marked Ecological Debt day..the day when humanity begins using more than the planet can provide this year.
For the rest of the year we are in ecological overshoot, living beyond our means and as if we have 1.3 planets to support us. This overshoot can go on for a short time, but ultimately it leads to a build up of waste and the depletion of the very resources on which the human economy depends. If trends continue, we'll be using 2 planets by 2050, and yet we only have one planet Earth. Here's the challenge
Produce a 2-3 minute video addressing this theme: What is overshoot, why does it matter, and what can we do about it?
Great prizes
* Grand Prize: The Grand Prize winner will be awarded $ 500 for Footprint friendly purposes.
* Second Prize: The second place winner will be awarded $ 250 for Footprint friendly purposes.
* Third Prize: The third place winner will be awarded $100 for Footprint friendly purposes.
* The Top Five participants will also receive a free copy of the Ecological Footprint DVD, as well as a year’s license to the National Footprint Accounts for the participant’s nation of residence. The Top Five participants will also receive an invitation to a lunch cooked and served by Mathis Wackernagel of Global Footprint Network, redeemable anytime the participant visits San Francisco.

Our judges will use the following criteria to select the winning solutions from a short list of the 12 highest rated (by online vote) video clips:

* Interesting style/creative approach (25%)
* Significance of challenges/solution (25%)
* Potential for replication (25%)
