A memetical about GMO potatoes and freedom (in Belgium and elsewhere)
In Belgium, the Field Liberation Movement won an important prize for radical democratic change. The Jaap Kruithof prize was awarded because of actions against GMO’s last May.
During the actions the FLM went into fields that were planted with GMO potatoes. They ‘freed’ the field from the GMO plants and replaced them with organic equivalents.
One of the protesters initially was fired from her job as a researcher at Leuven University, because of her participation in the act. Some other protesters were arrested.
When freeing potatoes has become a criminal act, we surely should consider the actual value of what we use to call freedom. Not only for potatoes, but most importantly for ourselves. Think about it.
