It’s holiday planning time again. That can be fun, but a source of stress as well, especially if you are on a tight budget, or if you want to reduce your ecological footprint to the minimum. So why not be creative and set a new trend?
Vacationing at home can really be a relaxed experience with all the fun and excitement of faraway places, without the hassle and the price tag. Just imagine what you could do from the savings of flying and renting a hotel room.
And then, vacationing should be all about recovering from the stress of daily work and life. But is it, spending your precious time in traffic jams and busy airports, with the risk of delayed flights, or even canceled? And what about the foresight of uninvited bedfellows, the bedbugs that are spreading like tourists?
Let’s face it, a vacation at home can be more relaxing than you would have imagined. So, realizing that what can you do? Here are a few tips to warm up your imagination.
1. Spa Day:
Create a spa feeling at home. Use common household items to make homemade facemasks, enjoy a relaxing bath, and give yourself (or each other) a manicure or pedicure. Light some candles and play soothing music for the ultimate relaxation.
2. Binge Time:
Choose a series of movies or a television series you’ve been wanting to watch or revisit classics. Dim the lights, create a cozy atmosphere, and don’t forget the popcorn. You could even make themed snacks to match the movie series. Remember: healthy, please, and preferably organic or vegan.
3. Food Fantasy:
Pick a cuisine you love or know little about and spend a day (or more) cooking or baking dishes from that culture. This could be a great way to learn new recipes, master new ways of preparing food, and indulge in delicious meals. Who is the real chef in the family? Make it a mini Masterchef, and don’t forget to film it. Again, think about organic or vegan.
4. Game Day:
No worries about the weather if you plan a game day. The old-fashioned way, with board games like Katan or Monopoly. Or online, with the Internet as a limitless source of entertainment. Just for fun, or like in US sports betting, with an edge to make a little extra budget on the side.
5. Salon Jungle:
Love indoor gardens and enjoy gardening? Consider starting an indoor garden. Herbs, succulents, and some vegetables can be grown indoors. Research and set up your garden. It’s not only a fun project, but it also adds a bit of greenery to your home and can be a source of fresh produce.
Surely there are a zillion more options to make a holiday at home a success. Allow your imagination to roam free, and many things you would do in faraway places you can do at home as well. Have fun!
